"A few, but many" best describes the crowd at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night. The crowd was small yet vibrant, cheering on the home team to its best performance. 2,735 loyal fans dealt with a chilly spring evening, but were rewarded with a solid performance.
Carrie Dew put Gold Pride in front 1-0 in the 33rd minute. Sky Blue had several opportunities in the first half, including 3 shots on target. However, they were unable to turn those into goals. This was not the case in the second half as hometown favorite Heather O' Reilly scored in the 76th minute. Sky Blue FC continued to put the pressure on after that electrifying moment, the first goal in the history of the franchise.
An aggressive move by Sky Blue FC's Karen Bardsley helped nullify a FC Gold Pride corner kick just a few minutes later. The last moments were defined by tense play from both sides. Both squads missed out on game-changing opportunities, but that can be said for most soccer matches. This could have turned into a high scoring affair had things lined up perfectly.
There should be no complaints about the quality of play this evening even thought the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The game was a showcase of wolrld-class talent with ample scoring opportunites and plenty of corner kicks (with a clear advantage to Sky Blue FC). |
