Single-Game Tickets for 2009 Crew Home Schedule to Go on Sale March 6
The MLS Cup-champion Columbus Crew announced today that single-game tickets will go on sale this Friday, March 6, following the completion of an exclusive pre-sale opportunity being extended to Crew Soccer Nation members and other supporters.
An allotment of tickets for all 15 regular-season home games will go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m., at the Crew Stadium Box Office and all central Ohio Ticketmaster retail locations, via Ticketmaster phone at 800-745-3000 and on-line at TheCrew.com.
The Crew’s 2009 home schedule features a total of 11 Saturday games – including First Kick 2009, March 28, vs. Toronto – three Sunday matches and one Wednesday match.
Fans can also still become Crew Soccer Nation members by purchasing full-season ticket packages or partial plans, starting as low as $95 for 5-Packs. Group tickets are also available for all 15 home games. All ticket packages or plans are available through TheCrew.com and 614-447-CREW.
Crew's Match vs. Guiseley FC Cancelled; Squad to Attend Manchester City vs. Aston Villa
The Crew was scheduled to face Guiseley FC in the second exhibition match of its England trip on Tuesday (March 3), but the match was cancelled to due to unplayable field conditions. The Crew kicked off the England trip with a 5-1 victory over a team of Everton reserves on Sunday (March 1). Robbie Rogers scored two goals and added an assist, Chad Marshall scored twice and Guillermo Barros Schelotto contributed a goal and two assists. The squad will now resume training in advance of its final England exhibition Thursday (March 5) vs. the Liverpool reserves. The team will take in a match between English Premier League sides Manchester City and Aston Villa today (March 4) at City of Manchester Stadium. The squad will depart England to return stateside on Friday (March 6) and will enjoy the weekend off before conducting a training session on Monday morning at a time and location to be determined. It will then depart again on Tuesday, for its final trip of the preseason, in Austin, Texas, where it will spend five days.
Crew Soccer Foundation Referee Scholarship Cycle Concudes
The Crew Soccer Foundation (CSF) Referee Scholarship Program wrapped up its most recent cycle on Saturday, Feb. 28. Certification classes were conducted by the Columbus Area Soccer Officials Association (CASOA) over four successive Saturdays at Gladden Community House. CSF will now provide a referee kit that consists of a yellow shirt, black shorts, black socks, whistles, book, yellow/red cards, two flags and a sports watch to each graduate, each of whom will be assigned to recreational and/or competitive youth matches by CASOA, which will also serve as a resource for questions. All scholarship winners will also be invited to attend a selected Crew game during the regular season to observe an officiating crew in action.
Crew Soccer Academy Resumes Play in Cincinnati
The Crew Soccer Academy squads continued play in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy last weekend, hosting a pair of matches at the Crew Training Center at Obetz. On Saturday (Feb. 28), both sides took on Carmel United, with the 15/16s drawing with Carmel, 1-1, thanks to a goal by Tyler Wollum and the 17/18s experiencing a 1-0 setback. On Sunday (March 1), the U-16s started off play with a scoreless draw with Empire United, followed by the U-18s earning a 2-0 victory over Empire, with Matt Mason registering both CSA goals. The two squads will travel to Cincinnati this Sunday to take on Ohio Elite SA, with the 15/16s kicking off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the 17/18s at 3:30 p.m.
