Kitsap Pumas Join PASL-Pro
The Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) announced the addition of the Kitsap Pumas to the league for the 2010/11 season.
The Pumas have been an outdoor team only the last two years, plying their trade in the USL's Premier Development League. While keeping their outdoor operations intact, the Pumas will now spend their winters playing the indoor game at Olympic Soccer and SportsCenter in Bremerton.
Kitsap will play in the new Pro Frontier Division which will consist of expansion teams and teams lacking natural geographic rivals. The Pro Frontier Division will join the Eastern and Western divisions in what will be a three-division alignment for the PASL-Pro's third season. Pro Frontier teams will play a 12-game schedule, while the other divisions will still play a full 16 games. Pro Frontier teams will be evaluated by the league throughout the season with the expectation of becoming a fully vested league member for the 2011/12 season.
"The PASL is excited to add the Kitsap Pumas to its Pro Frontier Division," said PASL-Pro Commissioner Kevin Milliken. "They are a proven organization outdoors, and will bring that success to the indoor game. This gives our league three professional teams in the Northwest with Tacoma and Wenatchee, which will pave the way for future expansion in the Northwest US, and in Western Canada for the CMISL."
"We're excited to be part of the league and to have the chance to further develop the fan base in Kitsap," said Pumas executive director Ben Pecora. "In the North American outdoor schedule this time of year is a bit of a flat spot - so the chance to do something that keeps us in the public's consciousness and still offers affordability and value for the fans was almost too good to pass up. Also, this team will give us a chance to further develop players and to look at additional options as we grow the club."
Kitsap's first game will be November 13 at Tacoma and the Pumas will play their first ever home indoor game the following week on November 20 against the Wenatchee Fire.
