England U17s kick off the new season with a high profile friendly against Turkey at Northampton Town on Friday, Kickoff 7pm.
The game is part of a four team international tournament with Portugal and Italy also taking part and will serve as a warm up for England’s upcoming European Championship qualifying campaign in Azerbaijan.
And England boss, John Peacock, is predicting a tough encounter against Turkey at Sixfields: “It’s great to have Turkey over here and taking part as they’ll bring a different style of play altogether. We’ve had some great games with them over the years and they beat us 3-2 in a brilliant match at the 2005 European Championships in Italy. We didn’t win, but it gave the likes of Theo Walcott, Michael Mancienne and Fabrice Muamba a proper taste of international football.”
Peacock is hopeful that more youngsters will be able to follow suit and break through to the Under 21s and beyond: “Tournaments of this nature are all about giving our youngsters experience in the first stages of their football careers,” said Peacock who used to be in charge of Derby County’s academy before joining The FA.
“We start our European Championship qualifying phase in Azerbaijan soon so the games against Portugal, Italy and Turkey will be invaluable as we look to progress these players into a major UEFA competition,” added the England boss.
Tickets are priced at just £3 for adults (£5 on the night) and £1 concessions while Charter Standard clubs can access free tickets by contacting the Sixfields office on 01604 683777. Group discounts for parties of 15 people or more are also available.
There is also international football at Sixfields on Wednesday afternoon with Portugal meeting Turkey as part of the same tournament. That game kicks off at 3pm, with prices £3 for adults (£5 on arrival) and £1 concessions. Again tickets are available by calling 01604 683777.

Eastbourne Borough travel to Salisbury City on Saturday (August 29th, kick off 15.00) looking for their first away points of the 2009/10 Blue Square Premier League campaign. Borough went down 3-0 at Wrexham and despite dominating were beaten 1-0 at Grays.
Salisbury, the club that were put up for sale five months ago for just £1. and are still on the market, got off to a flying start this season. Wins over Rushden and Diamonds and Kidderminster Harriers, saw them top of the table after two matches but five games in they are still on six points having lost three in a row to Mansfield (1-0), AFC Wimbledon (4-0) and Histon (2-0).
They have dropped to 16th. position and have not scored a goal since August 11th.
Last season Salisbury took four points from the two fixtures. At Priory Lane it was 0-0 and Borough lost 2-0 at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

Eastbourne Borough have picked up all seven points, that puts them in 12th. place in the early table, at Priory Lane with wins over AFC Wimbledon (1-0) and Barrow (2-1) and a 1-1 draw with Rushden and Diamonds.
48 hours after the Salisbury trip Borough are on home soil for the BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY (August 31st) encounter with Ebbsfleet United kick off 15.00.
So far Ebbsfleet have only two points from five games and are in 22nd position. They had an opening day 1-1 at Altrincham and picked up a point from a 0-0 at home to Kidderminster. Defeats have occured against Cambridge United (3-1), Stevenage (3-0) and Mansfield Town (3-0).
During the summer Fleet sold striker Michael Gash to York City for £50,000, but despite this manager Liam Daish - linked with the Cambridge manager job before Martin Ling was confirmed-has had to contend with an exodus of players after budget cuts. 38 year-old defender and player coach, England C keeper Lance Cronin, highly rated defender Darius Charles (he turned down a move to York City) and midfielder Ricky Shakes are still at Stonebridge Road. Daish has brought in a dozen new players: defenders Will Salmon and Jordan Collins; midfielders Gavin Heero, Scott Shulton, Ishmael Welsh, Kane Wills; Jamie Forshaw (midfield/forward), forwards Scott Ginty, James Lindie, Simon Thomas and Brazilian Magno Vieira released by Wycombe at the end of last season.
Last season Ebbsfleet took four points from Borough. It was 1-1 at Stonebridge Road and Fleet triumphed 1-0 at Priory Lane. In the Setanta Shield Ebbsfleet ran out comfortable winners 3-1. Reports at the weekend suggested Daish is about to sign a new contract at Ebbsfleet.
