Dynamo acquire rights to midfielder Harmse
Houston sends draft pick to Chivas USA for Canadian international
HOUSTON, TX - January 21, 2010 - The Houston Dynamo acquired the rights to midfielder Kevin Harmse from Chivas USA in a trade, it was announced today. In exchange for Harmse, a 25-year-old Canadian international, the Dynamo sent Chivas USA a conditional third- or fourth-round draft pick.
The Dynamo could be Harmse’s fourth MLS club after previous stints with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Toronto FC, and Chivas USA. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Harmse was raised in the Vancouver area and began his professional career at the age of 18. He represented Canada in the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup and in nine senior internationals since, playing with both Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad and defender Andrew Hainault.
“Kevin is a proven MLS veteran and international player,” Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. “By acquiring him, it helps address our need to add talent and depth in the midfield.”
Harmse is expected to join the Dynamo for preseason training in Houston in February.
The Dynamo will host the 2010 Major League Soccer All-Star Game this summer at Reliant Stadium, and tickets are available in Dynamo season ticket packages, on sale now at HoustonDynamo.com or by calling (713) 276-7500.
