ROOKIE EVAN BUSH NAMED TO WEEK 17 USL FIRST DIVISION TEAM OF THE WEEK
CLEVELAND, OH – Rookie Goalkeeper Evan Bush has been named to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 17 after his four-save shutout in Saturday's 0-0 draw with the defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps.
It was the first career shutout in USL play for Bush, a local product who attended Lake Catholic High School and the University of Akron before beginning his professional career this season with the City Stars.
"Evan played well and it was good to see him play with confidence," said City Stars Head Coach Rod Underwood. "Evan is a young guy with a lot of talent and he's been working hard this season. It's good to see him take advantage of his playing time and respond with a clean sheet against a very good team."
Bush made his professional debut on May 30th on the road against the Charleston Battery and made his debut in front of the hometown fans on June 9th in the City Stars 3-0 victory over the PDL St. Louis Lions in the U.S. Open Cup. Besides the victory in the Open Cup, Bush has appeared in three league matches and has a record of 0-2-1 with a Goals Against Average of 1.000.
Bush started every match in goal last season as a senior for the nationally ranked Akron Zips and posted a 17-2-4 record including 13 shutouts and a .46 Goals Against Average. Bush was a three-time all-Mid American Conference first-team selection and is the all-time career leader in the MAC in wins (62), shutouts (48), and G.A.A (.60).
Our Take: Evan Bush's play against Vancouver was solid to say the least. He helped lend support to a City Stars defense that gave up 8 goals in just two road games. Bush has a bright future ahead of him; our sources tell us that it is likely he will get a look from a MLS club during the 2010 season.
